Verna Vowles Bursary: For many years OKWA had a bursary to honour Verna Vowles who passed away in 2016. Verna was still working as an artist at the age of 96 and was a much beloved member of OKWA.
The Organization of Kingston Women Artists presented this bursary in the past to assist a deserving student in her/their continuing studies in a Visual Arts Program. Although all applicants were judged equally based on the excellence of their portfolios, priority was given to students who identified as female, transgender or non-binary.
NEW! KSOA/OKWA Bursary: This year in 2023, through the initiative of OKWA member Donna Brown we have partnered with the Kingston School of Art: we are providing a bursary to support a student towards taking courses at the school. Information is as follows:
The Organization of Kingston Women Artists Bursary is $500 and awarded to a deserving student(s) to support studies at Kingston School of Art. This bursary may be awarded to two deserving individuals, in which case, each would receive a $250 bursary.
Priority will be given to students who identify as female, transgender or non-binary. A panel of OKWA members will jury the submissions.
Bursaries have been granted for 2023. We will post a link once applications are open for next year.
