This bursary is to honour Verna Vowles who passed away in 2016. Verna was still working as an artist at the age of 96 and was a much beloved member of OKWA.
The Organization of Kingston Women Artists will present a bursary/bursaries ranging from $500 to $1000 to assist a deserving student in her/their continuing studies in a Visual Arts Program. Although all applicants will be judged equally based on the excellence of their portfolios, priority will be given to students who identify as female, transgender or non-binary.
Bursary application requirements:
1.The students must be entering a full time program in Visual Art or Design at an acknowledged post-secondary institution.
2. The students must submit five images of their current work (any media) and descriptions of their pieces (ie. medium, size, date completed) to OKWA. We would also like to hear the students’ plans for the future regarding their art careers if possible. This can be done electronically or by post with a flash drive.
3. OKWA would like a brief description of the students’ work and abilities to be provided by their teacher.
4. A panel of OKWA members will jury the submissions we receive. The recipient chosen will be informed and a cheque will be issued when OKWA receives confirmation of the recipient’s acceptance into a post secondary programme in Visual Art or Design.
Submission: Students should submit their information and images before May 1 of the current year.
Their information should be submitted to OKWA member Donna Brown via the link below.
